Saddleback GM Jim Quimby announces retirement following 2026/27 winter season

Jared Emerson and Andrew Roy promoted to new leadership positions 

RANGELEY, ME – September 3, 2026 – Saddleback General Manager Jim Quimby announced today that he will retire following the 2026/27 winter season, concluding a legendary ski industry career and a decades-long run as Saddleback’s most devoted supporter and ardent protector. Quimby made the announcement to Saddleback staff at a company gathering today.  

In coordination with Quimby’s forthcoming retirement, Saddleback also announced that Director of Mountain Operations Jared Emerson will assume a new position as Vice President of Operations, and Snowmaking Manager Andrew Roy will be promoted to Mountain Operations Manager.  

Emerson will oversee numerous areas of operation at Saddleback, including Mountain Operations, Property Maintenance, Base Operations, and more. Roy will oversee day to day management of all on-mountain operations, including snowmaking, grooming, lift operations, lift maintenance, vehicle fleet /maintenance, and ski patrol.  

Quimby Legacy 

A 2022 inductee into the Maine Ski Hall of Fame, Quimby has been a fixture at Saddleback for nearly as long as the resort has existed. He first skied at Saddleback as a child while his parents worked various jobs at the fledgling ski area, and became involved in ski racing at the mountain during his high school years. After a 20-plus year career in the United States Air Force, Quimby returned to Saddleback in 1998 and made an immediate impact across numerous departments, with his role quickly expanding to Vice President of Operations, overseeing everything from ski patrol to property maintenance.  

When Saddleback closed in 2015, Quimby remained as one of only a handful of employees maintaining the mountain’s trails, lifts, and facilities. He was instrumental in the effort to bring Saddleback back to life, and, following the resort’s acquisition by Arctaris in 2020, he managed the installation of the new Rangeley Express Quad, Cupsuptic T-Bar, new snowmaking infrastructure, and numerous other renovations needed to bring the resort back to life.  

In 2022, Quimby was promoted to General Manager, where he has helped guide the resort through its post-reopening growth while passionately advocating for programs like Ski Tuesday and the Laker Pass that keep skiing and riding accessible for the local community.  

Despite his forthcoming retirement, Quimby will remain a constant presence at Saddleback, serving in an advisory role and working with several non-profit groups to continue his lifelong support for his mountain home.
