Governor Baldacci and Saddleback Maine Announce Education and Recreation Initiative
Augusta, Maine - At a press conference today at the State House, Governor John Baldacci joined Warren Cook, CEO and General Manager of Saddleback Maine to announce Saddleback's new PEAK (Promoting Education and Activity for Kids) Program that rewards Maine's Honor Roll students with a $49.00 Season Pass to Saddleback. The program, supported by Governor Baldacci, is designed to encourage Maine students to perform well in school, to help curb childhood obesity, and to promote getting outside and enjoy winter sports. "Saddleback's PEAK program encourages our youth to not only work hard at school but get outside and have fun," stated Governor Baldacci. "Twenty-seven percent of Maine adults don't participate in any form of physical activity. The PEAK program will help get our children get outside, and learn to develop healthy lifestyle choices that will help them grow up to be healthy adults." Also in attendance were Bob Crowley, winner of the television show Survivor: Gabon, retired Maine teacher and celebrity-spokesman for the PEAK program; Commissioner Patrick McGowan, of the Maine Department of Conservation, and Grant Tobias, a 5th grade student from Yarmouth and a PEAK pass recipient. Warren Cook said, "Being involved in our communities and supporting the needs of our children is a value close to our hearts at Saddleback. This is a way we can encourage Maine's children to be healthy, both in body and mind."
