Saddleback Connections Offers Broadband Internet Service
~Saddleback Mountain also home to new radio station's signal~
RANGELEY, Maine - Saddleback Maine is now providing broadband service and a radio signal to the Rangeley area. Saddleback Connections, Saddleback Maine's new Internet service, uses broadband wireless technology to provide high-speed Internet access from towers near the summit of Saddleback Mountain and the base lodge. A directional antenna located at the top of Saddleback Mountain provides the signal for WRGY 90.5 FM, which some have said comes in as far out as Jackman, and Berlin, NH.
"Good things are coming from Saddleback Mountain," said Chris Farmer, general manager of Saddleback. "We're excited to offer a new high-speed Internet option to folks in the Rangeley area. Saddleback hopes that Connections helps meet the Internet needs of residents and businesses in the area with an affordable alternative perfect for this rural community. Having a local radio station that plays what the residents want to hear is great, too, and we're happy to be a part of it."
Saddleback Connections' service will provide an alternative to satellite and dial-up Internet to the Rangeley area. Connections' users will receive the Internet service through an antenna located on or near their house. Connections offers download speeds of up to 3.5Mbps for customers up to 18 miles away currently.
"The wireless broadband that Saddleback Connections is offering does not suffer from the brief delay or latency that satellite Internet does and is not nearly as susceptible to weather conditions, making it the right choice for rural customers," said Niki Haggan, operations manager of Saddleback Connections. "This significant improvement over satellite will enable many people to work and vacation right here in the western mountains of Maine. Our goal is to expand into other areas of Northern Franklin County over the next couple of years."
The speed of the connection varies with the plan that a user chooses. Monthly plans range from $30 packages to $120 business packages and installation costs are comparable to satellite. Additional services such as VOIP (Voice Over Internet Phone) and VPN (Virtual Private Network) can be chosen. For more information visit: www.saddlebackconnections.com or call 1-877-864-3130.
On October 1, 2010, WRGY 90.5 FM began broadcasting at full power to the Rangeley Lakes Region thanks to the directional antenna perched at the top of Saddleback Mountain which provides the signal. The station plans to slowly build a programming schedule based on community input, creating both musical and talk radio formats. Some of the first programs to roll out are a jazz brunch hour on Sunday mornings, Celtic music on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm and a classical hour Thursday mornings at 9:00 am.
