One thing that we don’t talk much about is our South Branch beginner area. It is by far the nicest teaching area that I have seen anywhere in the East! Why? First of all, it is located below the base lodge area. Being set aside from the rest of the mountain means there are seldom any high speed skiers flying through which can be very intimidating. Second, the beginning skier or rider has the full length of South Branch’s Royal Tiger trail to get the feel of their skis or board, well before having to deal with loading onto a chairlift. The lift is a very nice modern Doppelmyer Quad which was installed in 2004. Finally, the size and variety of terrain makes it a fun area to learn. The South Branch area is comprised of 10 trails that measure to be nearly four miles long in total. There is also a beginner terrain park and two very easy glades to start to learn to ski in the trees.
The Saddleback Ski School offers a variety of learn to ski or ride products at very affordable rates. There is also a three day product that is priced to include the third day for free. A special all day lift ticket for South Branch costs only $29 and is available every day, even holidays.
As you can see from the photo, today we fired up the snowmaking guns on Royal Tiger and will put a very deep layer of new snow in the South Branch area. Enough snow that we will be able to teach on quality surfaces well into the spring ski season. I encourage you to recommend this terrain and Saddleback’s learn to ski & ride programs to your non-skiing friends. They don’t know what they are missing!
