Today was PEAK Day at Saddleback and was it ever fun! PEAK stands for Promoting Education & Activities for Kids. Simply put, any Maine student up through 12th grade who makes the honor roll may purchase a Saddleback seasons pass for $49. We announced the program in September with Governor Baldacci and Survivor winner Bob Crowley. Since that time we have had close to 2,000 passes sold to honor roll students. Today was a day to celebrate their success!

Over 200 honor kids showed up to sign up for a raffle to win skis or a snowboard. They had a great day for skiing and riding. At 2:00 PM Survivor Bob Crowley was introduced to the kids on the sun deck and he spoke and answered questions for about 20 minutes. Then Bob led the march up the towards the terrain park where we took group photos. At the conclusion of the photo, survivor Bob drew the winner.

The winner turned out to be 10 year old Walker Ellsworth from Brooklyn, Maine. Walker was so excited! His parents told us that Walker was challenged by his grades but the PEAK Pass opportunity gave him the incentive to work harder in school. Walker did not own a snowboard and was renting equipment today.  Was he ever super-charged to leave with a shiny new board in his hands.  They drove nearly 4 hours this morning to participate in the event and are they happy that they made the trip!

Remember tomorrow is Maine Day. Maine residents ski all day for just $35. We also have skiing with management. Meet us at 7:30 at the base of the Rangeley Chair and ski a few runs with us before the lifts open. I hope to see you there.
