This week we turned the page to March - the nicest month of the ski season in my opinion. The light is best, temperatures are pleasant, our BBQ’s are soon to get underway, then comes spring events like pond skimming & the cardboard box race. In general, people are more relaxed and yet they become more spirited. Some folks will even take off their shirts and ski in shorts. We will get a taste of spring this weekend! The photo here is a group of Eastern Ski Writers checking out the snow on Black Beauty this morning.

The forecast is calling for sunshine beginning tomorrow and lasting through the weekend. The mountain is in great shape from last week's huge snowfall and we will have our first BBQ on the deck at the base lodge. Today we hauled a bunch of picnic tables up to the yurt's deck in anticipation of a party atmosphere at Kennebago Station. It would be a good idea to bring your sunscreen, but if you forget it, we have plenty of it in the ski shop. I am sure that the upper snowfields will be popular and that there will be lots of skiers headed towards Casablanca. The snow in there is deep and soft!

The Annual Ski Patrol Auction takes place this Saturday. The silent auction is from noon until 2pm. Then the live auction begins. Lots of goods and services will be on the auction block including some old Saddleback memorabilia. Also Saturday beginning at 3:30, there will be live music in the Swig’n Smelt Pub. At 7:30, a fireworks display is planned in front of the base lodge.

Sunday is Maine day so tell all of your Maine friends that they can ski Saddleback this Sunday for only $35. Also, if you get up early enough Sunday morning, you can ski with management from 7:30 until lifts open at 8:30. Meet us at the Rangeley Double before 7:30 AM. In addition, the NEVADO Mountain Adventure group will be set up in front of the base lodge with ski demos and product samples to give a-way. It should be a very fun weekend at Saddleback. I hope that you can join us!
