It was drop-dead gorgeous at Saddleback today! We had wall-to-wall sunshine, blue sky, no wind and temperatures warming into the upper 30’s. Yesterday’s 6 inches of new snow blended nicely into the surface from last night’s extensive grooming. In fact, last night’s grooming was one of the most extensive that I have seen all season as 41 trails were groomed. Unfortunately for me, I was too busy to get out to enjoy the snow. My wife, Lisa however, skied most of the day. She described the surfaces as being mostly smooth packed powder. Many trails that normally do not get groomed such as Lower Peachy’s and Lower Professor were groomed and featured exceptional snow textures. Lisa said “Lower Professor was creamy”!

The forecast calls for increasing clouds with some snow developing late tonight. We may pick up several additional inches. That would certainly enhance our snow conditions but would also get us to the annual average snowfall amount of 225”- we are currently sitting at 222”. Skies will clear out Friday but temperatures will be more winter-like staying in the low 20’s. The weekend outlook is for seasonable temperatures in the 30’s with sunshine both days.

Saturday we host our annual cardboard box race. This year’s theme is cartoon characters. It is more than a race as judges will choose the most creative cardboard vehicle. I have not seen this event before, but I am told that it is lots of fun to watch. The race starts at 1:00 PM.

Saturday is also PEAK Day #2. We will hold a raffle for 3 PEAK passes for next year. Winners will still need to make the honor roll next fall, but they will have a free pass if they do. Immediately following the race, we will take a PEAK group photo in the terrain park as picture here from the February PEAK Day. Following the photo, we will pull the raffle winners. Survivor Bob Crowley will again be here all weekend and he will pull the winning names.

The last of our winter concert series will take place Saturday night at 8:00 PM. We will welcome one of the hottest country acts from Texas, The Derailers. Tickets are just $20 each and we still have seats & tables available.

Sunday is Saddleback Fan Day. All members of our Saddleback Facebook Fan page are eligible to ski Sunday for only $29.
